The Alphabet Soup of Insurance Acryonisms: In recent years, many tools have been devised to offset the rising costs of insurance. Listed below are the methods used to curtail these costs.
Consumer Driven Health Plans (CDHP)
A good alternative to a regular health plan is a consumer driven health plan. These health plans are often used together with a high deductible health plan that helps when a catastrophic medical event occurs. A high deductible health plan is a plan that, as the name suggests, has a high deductible to meet. This plan also has a set out-of-pocket maximum and low premium costs. Deductible minimums and out-of-pocket maximums are set every year by the IRS.
Whether it is an HRA, HSA, FSA, or QDHP, we will discuss the ramifications of the plans and see if one is right for you. These accounts offer tax advantages, cut premium dollars and offer flexibility depending on how the plan is designed. All of these are forms of consumer driven health plans.
Health Reimbursement Accounts (HRA) have been very cost effective for employers. They are very flexible and allow employers to reimburse employees for health related expenses.
Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) allows employees to set aside money, tax free, for qualifying medical or dependent care expenses.
Health Savings Accounts (HSA) are for both individuals and groups on a qualifying high deductible health plan (QHDHP). Both an employer and employee can contribute to an HSA. No matter who contributes, all contributions are made on a pre-tax basis and the money funded always belongs to the individual.
Employers and individuals no longer have to pay high premiums for "off the rack" insurance plans. Many options are now available to complement the new insurance plans, allowing money to be set aside versus being spent towards a high dollar premium.
Individual and Family Health, Dental and Life
We will discuss your needs and budget and find the plans that are best designed for you. Coverage is extremely important, and it is best to plan for the "what if". However, we realize premium costs can be intimidating, so we will shop for the best plan at the least expense.
The QHDHPs for individuals have been very successful in providing low cost insurance. These are paired with a HSA so that you can get the tax savings as well. For those in between jobs, a short term policy may be the solution for you. Contact us for further information. Or, you may apply online.
Disability & Life Insurance
Whether a long term or short term disability, the loss of income due to disability can significantly affect your lifestyle. We offer many plans with various options so as to lessen the financial burden if you are disabled.
We will assist you in determining the amount of Life Insurance coverage that you need to provide financial stability for your family. And, as time changes, your life insurance coverage needs will change as well. Whether expanding your family or changing careers, we will assess your needs to make sure you are adequately covered.
Medicare
We take the time to discuss the options with seniors who are eligible for Medicare coverage. There are Medicare advantage plans, supplements, and prescription drug plans available by several carriers. We look at your individual needs, your prescription drug usage, and assist you in determining which plan is the best policy for you.
Auto & Home
With auto and home, discounts are often given when coverage is combined with a single carrier. Contact us for further information.
