Who we are.




The Herbert Insurance Agency was incorporated in 1992 by William C. "Buck" Herbert, Jr. and Thomas S. Herbert, VII.  Buck and Tom already had years of experience in the insurance industry.  In 1996, Michele Herbert joined the agency.  We are family owned and operated, having strong ties to our community and clients.  Not only is our business located in Ashland, but this is our home and community as well.  The rising costs of health care has been a primary concern for most people.   We utilize the latest tools of the industry and bring to our clients ways to manage the increasing costs. There are many choices available, decisions to be made, and many ways to allocate your money on your insurance needs.  We strive to make those dollars well spent.

Because we don't sell you an insurance policy, but an insurance plan.  For individuals, you need to factor in your current lifestyle, age, and plans for the future.  Do you need maternity benefits, dental, or have adequate coverage for your children?    Seniors, do you have questions on the ever changing forms of medicare available? Choosing the right health plan is critical.  Don't assume that since you are young and healthy you do not need insurance.  Being uninsured, or underinsured, can be financially devistating if you have an unforseen accident.



For group policies, we can look out side of the box and show you ways to manage the health care costs.  Wether it is a "mom and pop" business or a larger group, we will select a plan and carrier best suited for your needs.  There are many insurance tools that can be utilized to manage the costs, such as HRAs, HSAs, & CDHPs.  We will explain these concepts and set up the plans.  We keep abreast with the current health regulations, acting as your own human resources department.  Are you aware of the latest COBRA regulations? We are!



You do not get special deals by buying directly from the insurance carrier.  In this case, you do not want to cut out the "middle man."  We act on your behalf to obtain multiple quotes, explain the plan benefits, or even to research claims issues.  As an independent agency, we are not tied to one insurance carrier.  We represent the leaders in the industry and thus can obtain quotes from multiple carriers, providing you with competitive options.  You need to think smart on your insurance, you do not necessarily need to strip benefits, but you need to make informed decisions, and this is how our knowledge can assist you.  We will make sure we are listening to your needs, whether they be cost issues or benefit desires.  Furthermore, we will not just work on earning your business, but keeping it.  Rely on us for answers to your questions.  For individuals this may be explaining how a health savings account works, or with groups how a health reimbursement account is funded.

We service individuals as well as business groups.  We carry plans for children, individuals, families, seniors, and small and large business accounts in the state of Virginia.  We provide personal attention to each client.  We stress to our  clients to ask us questions up front and get exactly what coverage they want and to call us when they have a concern.  With groups, we welcome employees and group administrators to call us with questions, acting as a second human resources team.
